The consumer goods industry and even well-known sustainability leaders are facing a challenging environment.

Rising costs, high consumer expectations and limited willingness to pay, increasing regulation, such as the EU claims directive and supply chain law and a need for a sustainable transformation towards self-set ambitious SBTi targets are just recent examples creating pressure. Now more than ever, it is crucial for companies to rethink roadmaps, processes, and cost structure while meeting stakeholder demands for more sustainable products.
 
Although sustainability may be seen as a hurdle during the crisis, transforming to more sustainable operations can lead to long-term cost savings, while strengthening stakeholder relationships and fostering differentiation. For instance, operational functions require special attention in this transition, considering decarbonization of the supply chain or circular economy as some of the most crucial levers.
